Study group with Elisa Muñoz Blanco

October 18, 2026, at Hospital Fundación San José, Madrid, Spain.

(14 hours accredited by the Watsupath Training Institute https://watsupath.com and the International Association of Aquatic Bodywork (W.A.B.A.) http://waba.pro for the Watsu®professional track )

PRESENTATION

Bodywork in water profoundly transforms the way the body organizes itself, perceives, and responds. Buoyancy, support, and the relationship with gravity alter muscle tone, breathing, internal rhythm, and the experience of touch.

In this context, the therapeutic alliance ceases to be an abstract idea and becomes a physical, observable, and dynamic experience, built through presence, contact, rhythm, and the way one accompanies the client.

This study group offers a clear and rigorous experiential exploration of the therapeutic alliance as it applies to bodywork in water, understood as a key factor in safety, regulation, and support. Throughout the day, we explore how the aquatic environment influences the perception of safety and the body’s ability to let go, adapt, or protect itself, and how the facilitator’s support can facilitate these processes without forcing or directing.

The course’s approach is strictly embodied and experiential. This is not a course in psychotherapy or psychological intervention, but rather a training program aimed at refining the quality of physical support in water, offering clear and applicable criteria for working with sustained contact.

The program integrates current knowledge about the body, regulation, and relationships, translated into accessible language that is directly applicable to pool practice. Theory is not explained outside the body: it is experienced, tested, and integrated in the water through guided exercises and supervised practice.

The study group combines rigor, depth, and lightness, inviting participants to learn through direct experience, curiosity, and enjoyment, and to discover how, in many cases, less technique and more presence lead to safer and more effective support.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THIS STUDY GROUP?

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how the physical properties of water influence muscle tone, breathing, and body organization.
  • Recognize observable bodily cues of safety, activation, and overload during water-based work.
  • Develop a stable and regulated bodily presence during aquatic support.
  • Apply basic principles of touch, rhythm, and buoyancy that promote physical and relational safety.
  • Distinguish between supporting from the body and directing, forcing, or overstimulating.
  • Integrate basic criteria regarding consent, boundaries, and professional ethics into WATSU® and CST in Water sessions.

Professional Ethical Framework

The study group operates in accordance with:

  • Principles of physical and relational safety in bodywork in water.
  • Respect for informed, ongoing, and revocable consent.
  • Clarity regarding boundaries between bodywork and other areas of intervention.
  • The Bioethics Charter for Bodywork in Water.
  • Best professional practices in contexts of prolonged contact.

TRAINING METHODOLOGY

This training combines self-directed learning, preparatory work, intensive in-person practice, and follow-up support, with the goal of optimizing the time spent in the water and fostering a deeper integration of the course content.

Before the in-person session, participants will have access to the platform, where they will find preparatory materials, selected readings, and activities designed to facilitate understanding of the course’s fundamental concepts.

Completing this preparatory work is a prerequisite for participation in the in-person training and allows the time spent together to be dedicated primarily to the development of practical skills, clinical exploration, and direct supervision.

During the in-person session, participants will combine theoretical presentations, demonstrations, guided practice, small-group work, and opportunities for clinical reflection.

After the training, participants will retain access to the course materials and the learning community, fostering the continuity of the learning process beyond the in-person experience.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE

This Study Group is specifically designed for students and practitioners of Craniosacral Therapy in Water, Watsu®, and other disciplines of Aquatic Bodywork, as well as physical therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other health professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of the quality of support, relational safety, and bodily presence.

No prior knowledge of systemic therapy or somatic work is required, although basic experience in therapeutic support or aquatic bodywork is necessary.

The class will be taught in Spanish, with English translation available upon request.

CERTIFICATION

Upon completion of this activity, participants will receive a Certificate of Participation issued by the Watsupath Training Institute, crediting 14 hours of continuing education.

The corresponding hours may be incorporated into the professional track recognized by the Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association (W.A.B.A.), in accordance with the association’s current regulations.

This activity is part of the Watsupath Training Institute’s continuing education program in Ethics and Communication, aimed at developing competencies related to the therapeutic alliance, relational safety, and the quality of bodywork support.

Together with the 6-hour online masterclass “The Power of Encounter, it constitutes an independent training program that shares the same core focus. Together, these two activities offer a 20-hour continuing education program centered on the therapeutic alliance, integrating clinical, relational, and body-based perspectives.
