Pediatric Physiotherapy aims to help each child and adolescent to achieve their maximum potential to operate independently and to promote their active participation at home, the school and the community (APA American Association of Physiotherapy).
The pediatric physical therapist is responsible for assessment, prevention, counseling, care and evolution of healthy children and those children who have a general delay in their development or movement disorders or other diseases or alterations that may be healed, controlled or relieved.
There are different methods of intervention or therapeutic approaches (Bobath concept, Le Métayer concept, new technologies, bioengineering, …) and all of them are at service of each child to improve their health and function, achieve the maximum of their abilities, and develop their personal and social skills.
Our focus is on the child and the family, bearing in mind that, together with the environment, everyone is of essential importance as facilitators of the development of the physical, mental and emotional potential of the child.
Intervention can be carried out in multiple environments, preferably a natural environment for the child, a playful environment that can offer multiple learning possibilities and promote its development and evolution.
Aquatic Physiotherapy is an intervention in which the physical properties of water are used with the aim of improving and rehabilitating function, and that is carried out in a pool with specific characteristics by an expert physiotherapist.
These interventions are based on the application of specific techniques (Halliwick®, Cranio-Sacral Therapy in Water™, Watsu®, Healing Dance™ and Ai Chi®, among others), which together with the concepts mentioned above, ultimately seek to meet the objectives agreed between the child, the family and the professional, adapted at every moment of the process and the degree of evolution.
Pediatric Physiotherapy is an area of specialization of Physiotherapy that facilitates therapeutic interventions in a very different way from other specializations. Treating a child or adolescent is not the same as treating a “short adult” and therefore requires specific, comprehensive and up-to-date training.
